Ziauddin Hospital observes World Hepatitis Day-2026

KARACHI – Dr. Ziauddin Hospital observed World Hepatitis Day 2026 under the global theme, “Hepatitis: Let’s break it down, ” and “Elimination for everyone, everywhere. .. right now! ”. The event featured an awareness walk, followed by an educational symposium attended by healthcare professionals, faculty members, medical students, and members of the public. The symposium was chaired by Prof. Uzma Ghori, Head of the Department of Medicine at Ziauddin Hospital, and graced by Prof. Dr. S. M. Wasim Jafri, Founding President and Patron of Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases, as the Guest of Honor. The scientific session included a presentation by Dr. Khurram Baqai on the epidemiology of viral hepatitis. Conference examines Pak foreign policy amid shifting global geopolitical landscape Dr. Zaigham Abbas, Prof. & Head, Department of Hepato-Gastroenterology & Liver Transplant at Dr. Ziauddin Hospital, highlighted how unsafe medical practices and quackery are spreading hepatitis B, C, and AIDS in the community. WHO identifies Pakistan as a high-burden country for hepatitis. Existing national policies are failing due to weak enforcement, poor governance, informal providers, and resource limitations. Dr. Darayus P. Gazder discussed the preventive measures and the role of immunization in hepatitis elimination. Dr. Zeeshan Hyder, liver transplantation surgeon at Dr. Ziauddin Hospital, pointed out that sequelae of chronic viral hepatitis were the major indication for liver transplantation at Ziauddin Hospital. The event reaffirmed Dr. Ziauddin Hospital’s commitment to promoting liver health, advancing medical education, and supporting national and global efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis.
