LMDC brings free oral health screening and preventive dental care to community through outreach …

LAHORE: Reinforcing the vital role of community dentistry in improving public health, Dental College LMDC organized a comprehensive Oral Health Screening Program at Maryam Nawaz Health Center, offering free dental examinations, preventive oral healthcare services, and oral hygiene education to members of the community. The initiative was conducted under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Aqib Sohail, Principal and Dean of Dental College LMDC, and was led by the Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nazli Shujaat and Associate Professor Dr. Syeda Lalarukh Saba Shah. The program was organized in collaboration with the Department of Oral Medicine & Diagnosis, headed by Prof. Dr. Khurram Nadeem. The outreach activity aimed to improve access to oral healthcare services while promoting awareness about the importance of preventive dentistry, early diagnosis of oral diseases, and the adoption of healthy oral hygiene practices. Patients attending the camp received comprehensive dental assessments and guidance on maintaining long-term oral health. Dental professionals emphasize that oral diseases, including tooth decay, gum disease, and oral infections, remain among the most prevalent health conditions globally. Community-based screening programs play a critical role in identifying oral health issues at an early stage, allowing timely intervention and reducing the burden of advanced dental disease. A key feature of the program was the active involvement of LMDC faculty members, house officers, and demonstrators, who conducted detailed oral examinations and patient assessments under professional supervision. Their participation not only facilitated quality patient care but also strengthened practical learning and community engagement among future dental professionals. To further support patients, the organizing team distributed complimentary oral healthcare products and medications, including toothpaste, mouthwash, analgesics, and antibiotics where appropriate. The initiative sought to address both immediate oral health needs and long-term preventive care through patient education and support. Prof. Dr. Aqib Sohail attended the program and commended the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by faculty members, house officers, and demonstrators. He appreciated their commitment to community service and their efforts to expand access to essential oral healthcare for underserved populations. Healthcare experts increasingly recognize preventive dentistry as one of the most cost-effective strategies for reducing the burden of oral disease. By focusing on early detection, oral health education, and community outreach, dental institutions can play a significant role in improving overall public health outcomes. The successful screening program reflects Dental College LMDC’s continued commitment to community engagement, preventive oral healthcare, and public awareness initiatives. Through such programs, the institution aims to bridge gaps in access to dental care while encouraging healthier communities through education, prevention, and timely intervention.
