In the first half of this year, complex crises related to displacement, economic hardships, and recurring climate-related shocks worsened, affecting more than 8, 000 households. Yemen Red Crescent Society (YRCS) continued to provide life-saving assistance and basic services to the country’s most vulnerable communities. Through its national network of branches and volunteers and strong acceptance among communities and local stakeholders, YRCS has been able to continue implementing humanitarian and emergency interventions while maintaining essential services in the areas of health, water and sanitation, protection, economic empowerment and community participation. In the first half of this year, YRCS focused on five interconnected areas of work, including: (1) responding to emergencies, disasters and immediate humanitarian needs while enhancing community preparedness and resilience, especially in areas of food and economic security; (2) strengthening protection activities, restoring family links and the dignified management of human remains; (3) healthcare, focusing on public health in emergencies (PHiE) approaches; (4) ensuring communities have access to basic water and sanitation services; and (5) investing in developing YRCS’s branches, systems, volunteers and capacities necessary to sustain humanitarian work. The progress towards achieving YRCS’s annual goals was made amid a severe lack of funding. As of June, YRCS had received 48. 9 per cent of the funding requirements needed to achieve its annual plan goals. This gap affects the ability to continue existing services, maintain preparedness and response capacity, and advance recovery priorities during the second half of the year. The mid-year report presents the progress made against YRCS’s strategic priorities for 2026, and highlighting results achieved in its five priority areas. It also identifies the priorities that will guide YRCS’s work during the second half of the year, including the focus on sustaining essential services, maintaining emergency preparedness, and directing available resources towards priority communities and interventions.
