Country: Yemen Source: Action for Humanity Action For Humanity (AFH) is deeply concerned of a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen, as renewed fighting in the west of the country forces families from their homes, putting thousands of civilians at risk. More than 1, 790 households have reportedly been displaced since 3rd September, with over 2, 183 displaced families now reported across Ta’iz and Al Hodeidah as people continue to flee in search of safety. Action For Humanity, one of the leading humanitarian organisations operating in Yemen since 2021, has activated emergency preparedness measures and is positioning for a rapid multi-sector response. With its geographical access and capacity to respond in out of reach areas, AFH is preparing emergency food distributions, water trucking, hygiene support, emergency sanitation facilities and cash assistance to help newly displaced families meet their most urgent needs. The organisation is also observing that humanitarian needs are rising at a time when funding for Yemen remains desperately inadequate. Current emergency stocks are limited, response capacity is under pressure, and humanitarian agencies face major challenges in scaling assistance without immediate donor support. AFH is calling for flexible funding to enable rapid life-saving interventions before needs escalate further. Wassim Khmaja, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Action For Humanity, says: “The displacement crisis is unfolding in a country already experiencing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian emergencies. Families are fleeing with little more than the clothes they are wearing, while urgent needs for food, clean water, healthcare, shelter, sanitation and cash assistance continue to grow. Action For Humanity and other humanitarian organisations on the ground are warning that the situation could worsen rapidly if violence continues or expands into new areas. ” “It very much feels like Yemen is one step away from a humanitarian catastrophe. The international community must act to prevent Yemen from falling into the abyss and for donors to ensure Yemen’s chronically underfunded humanitarian crisis, finally gets the funding it needs. ” “Yemen was already one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises before this latest escalation. Today, we are witnessing families being displaced once again, arriving in safer areas with little food, limited access to clean water and no certainty about what comes next. ” “What is most alarming is not only the scale of current needs but how quickly they could increase. Humanitarian organisations are warning that displacement could spread further, placing even greater pressure on communities that are already struggling to cope. Without urgent action, many vulnerable families risk being left without the support they need to survive.” “Action For Humanity is mobilising emergency assistance across affected areas and stands ready to expand its response as needs evolve. Our teams and partners are working to provide food, water, sanitation support and cash assistance to families who have lost almost everything. We have the experience, presence and local partnerships needed to respond quickly and effectively.” “Yet humanitarian agencies cannot respond at the scale required without funding. Yemen’s humanitarian response has faced years of severe financial pressure, and this latest emergency comes when resources are already stretched. The international community must not wait for the situation to deteriorate further before acting. Every day that passes without sufficient funding means more families going hungry, more children left without access to basic services and more people pushed deeper into crisis.” AFH is continuing to coordinate with humanitarian partners and monitor developments as the situation evolves.
