WAPDA chief visits Mohmand Dam project, reviews progress

PESHAWAR: Chairman WAPDA Lt Gen Muhammad Saeed (Retd) on Thursday visited Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project being constructed across River Swat in Mohmand District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Member Water Asim Rauf Khan accompanied him. During the visit, the Chairman reviewed construction activities at key sites, with particular focus on the Main Dam and Power House. Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman WAPDA said that Mohmand Dam is a strategic national project that will augment Pakistan’s water, food and energy security. He also directed WAPDA’s Project Team, Consultants and Contractors to enhance momentum of construction works, adhere to the technical benchmarks, best quality standards, and ensure timely completion of the project. He reiterated that delivering this project on time remains critical to Pakistan’s long-term goals for sustained growth and economic stability. Earlier, the Chairman WAPDA presided over a progress review meeting with the Board of Management, Mohmand Dam Consulting Group and the Contractors at the Project Office. Mohmand Dam is a multi-purpose project. Upon completion, it will store 1. 29 MAF (Gross storage) of water for irrigation; mitigate floods in Charsadda, Mardan and Nowshera; supply 300 million gallons per day of drinking water to Peshawar; generate 800 MW electricity and provide 2. 86 billion units of clean and affordable hydel electricity to the National Grid annually.
