Viet Nam: VNM: Flood – 07-2026 – Typhoon No. 1 (Maysak) and Floods #2 (2026-07-07)

Country: Viet Nam Sources: International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Vietnam Red Cross Society Please refer to the attached file. Description Following landfall on 5 July 2026, Typhoon No. 1 (Maysak) weakened into a tropical depression but continues to bring strong winds, heavy rainfall and localised flooding across northeastern Viet Nam, particularly in Quảng Ninh Province. Authorities remain on high alert for secondary hazards, including flash floods and landslides, as heavy rainfall is expected to continue. The strong winds caused significant damage across Móng Cái 1, Móng Cái 2 and Móng Cái 3 wards. Numerous trees were uprooted, while corrugated metal roofs were blown off buildings, scattering debris across roads and disrupting transport. Along Hòa Bình Boulevard and around Móng Cái International Border Gate, roofing materials from nearby buildings were blown into surrounding areas. Rising water levels in the Ka Long River also caused floodwaters carrying mud and sediment to overflow onto the riverside pedestrian walkway. As of 5 July 2026, no widespread casualties have been officially reported. In Quảng Ninh Province, all three crew members of a fishing vessel that sank off Mũi Ngọc were successfully rescued by local authorities. Móng Cái City experienced disruptions to transport and electricity due to fallen trees, damaged roofs and billboards, while rough sea conditions continued to affect fishing and maritime activities. Authorities continue to monitor communities in flood- and landslide-prone areas and advise residents to remain vigilant until weather conditions improve.
