Description Ambae Island remain an active volcanic environment due to ongoing activity at Manaro Voui. The volcano Alert level was upgraded on February 23 2026 and remain until this addendum plan was developed. The continued volcanic activity was observed in early 2026, with reports of gas emissions, ashfall, and environmental impacts affecting surrounding communities. On 25 August 2026, Communities reported an increase of ashfall on their crops and water storage, including gas emssions and dark plumes from the vent. High impact areas including areas in South, West, and North Ambae together with communities in North Pentecost. The total affected population is 15,180. It has its headquarters in Port Vila, Shefa province, and works through six branches in the provinces of Torba, Sanma, Penama, Malampa, Shefa and Tafea where six pre-positioned depots are also located. VRCS has 32 staff and 300 active volunteers, 87 of which are trained as Emergency Response Team (ERT) members. Actions taken by others The Government of the Republic of Vanuatu through the Vanuatu National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and the provincial government, and organization, Save the Children, the TVET. The provincial has activated its provincial Emergency Operations Centre (PEOC) and has been coordinating the response with partners. It has activated its PDCCC, AA and CDCCC.
