USA – Severe weather and tornadoes (media, NOAA WPC) (ECHO Daily Flash of 8 May 2026)

Country: United States of America Source: European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations On 6 May, severe weather – including tornadoes and intense thunderstorms – swept across central and western Mississippi, causing injuries, extensive damage and widespread power outages. By 7 May, media reports confirmed at least 17 people had been injured. In Lincoln county more than 200 structures were damaged, while Lamar county saw 275 homes and 50 apartment units compromised and 30 roads closed. Lawrence county suffered damage to 12 homes, together with several road closures and cuts to power lines. Forecasts indicated that heavy rain and further thunderstorms would continue to affect the Southeast and the Lower Mississippi Valley from 8 to 9 May, persisting through the end of the week.
