Highlights Since 2 March, over 280, 000 people crossed from Lebanon into Syria through official border points, driven by intensified hostilities and deteriorating living conditions in Lebanon. Around 3. 3 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) and Syrian refugees have returned to Syria since December 2024 – over 50 per cent of returnees are children. Explosive ordnance remains a serious threat, with 219 children killed and 527 children injured among the civilian casualties reported since December 2024. Economic hardship, localised conflicts and escalations, and large‐scale returns continued to compound vulnerabilities and limit access to essential livelihoods in early 2026. In Q1 2026, UNICEF and partners reached 2. 2 million people, including 1. 4 million children, with life‐saving and life‐sustaining support across health, nutrition, education, WASH, child protection, social protection, and social and behaviour change interventions. UNICEF Syria Humanitarian Action for Children appeal is funded at 17 per cent, undermining the continuity of essential services and progress towards early recovery and resilience.
