KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to seek assistance from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to curb fake news and misleading information, while strengthening media monitoring through modern technology. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Sindh Information Department chaired by Senior Minister and Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, Director General Information Dr. Moiz Pirzada and other senior officials attended the meeting. Sharjeel Memon directed the department to establish an effective system for the daily monitoring, verification and timely identification of fake news across mainstream and social media platforms. He also called for closer coordination with the NCCIA and other relevant institutions to pursue legal action against those responsible for creating or spreading false information. He said false and misleading information intended to harm individuals or institutions would not be tolerated. Memon also directed officials to strengthen communication of the Sindh government’s policies and public welfare initiatives through digital platforms and modern media tools. He said the government’s stated narrative was based on peace, tolerance, inter-provincial harmony and national unity, and called for greater public access to accurate, authentic and timely information. The Senior Minister stressed that the Information Department should combine effective monitoring of misinformation with stronger dissemination of verified information and public-interest initiatives as part of a coordinated media strategy.
