Sindh, KP: UNOPS to host handover ceremony for US-funded WASH project tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: A United States-funded USD 7. 6 million water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) project benefiting nearly 300, 000 people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh will officially be handed over to the government on Thursday (tomorrow). The project marks a major milestone in efforts to improve access to safe drinking water, sanitation services and climate-resilient infrastructure in some of Pakistan’s most vulnerable communities. United Nations Office on Project Services (UNOPS), will host the Handover Ceremony for the “Improved Access to Water and Sanitation Services in KP and Sindh” project in Islamabad. The event will mark the formal handover of a USD 7. 6 million initiative that has improved access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene services for approximately 300, 000 people in Tank (KP) and Umerkot (Sindh). The ceremony will bring together senior government officials, representatives of the US government, development partners, and beneficiary communities to highlight the project’s achievements, including new water supply schemes, sanitation facilities, and strengthened local capacity, while celebrating the positive impact on public health, climate resilience, and sustainable service delivery. The initiative funded by the United States government and implemented by UNOPS in collaboration with provincial governments of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project has delivered major infrastructure and service improvements, including six water supply schemes and a water quality testing laboratory serving approximately 164, 000 people. It has also upgraded school and community sanitation facilities benefiting over 6, 400 individuals, supported hygiene awareness campaigns, and strengthened local institutional capacity for sustainable WASH service delivery.
