Punjab to launch four-month tech training for youth

LAHORE: The government of Punjab will introduce a four-month accelerated training program aimed at equipping youth with modern technological skills and enhancing employment opportunities. The program will be delivered through an online learning platform. The decision was taken at a key meeting on the promotion of information technology and frontier technology skills held under the chairpersonship of Senior Advisor to the Chief Minister Punjab for Information Technology and Innovation Anusha Rahman, said a press release issued on Tuesday. It was proposed to divide trainees into three categories based on their educational background: individuals with high school or lower education, undergraduate students, and postgraduates. Furthermore, emphasis was placed on including advanced courses such as prompt engineering and programming languages (Python and Java) to ensure the provision of globally competitive skills. The CEO of P@SHA highlighted that one of the major challenges in training programs is sustaining participants’ engagement as trainees often lose interest during the course. The participants agreed on the need to address this issue with special focus. Anusha Rahman assigned the responsibility of curriculum benchmarking against international standards to the CEO of P@SHA who accepted the task and assured full cooperation. The meeting also agreed to involve IT companies and technology firms with practical industry experience alongside educational institutions to ensure the training remains effective and aligned with market demands. The CEO of P@SHA also emphasized the importance of engagements between the IT export industry and relevant government departments and agencies. At the conclusion of the meeting, participants reaffirmed their commitment to the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif to empower the youth with modern technological skills and enable them to play an active role in the digital economy.
