One month after glacier-triggered flash floods devastated Rasuwa and Nuwakot, thousands of children and families continue to face the consequences of the disaster. The floods have claimed 1, 451 lives, while 5, 786 people remain missing. An estimated 22, 000 children have been affected, many facing the loss of homes, family members, friends, schools and the routines that once gave them a sense of safety and normalcy. Education has also been severely disrupted. Around 9, 800 children across 32 schools have had their learning affected, with 18 schools fully or partially destroyed. Displacement, family separation and disruption to essential services continue to heighten protection and wellbeing concerns for children. In the first month, World Vision International Nepal has reached 8, 684 people, including 3, 521 children and 258 people with disabilities, working through local partners KIRDARC Nepal and Good Neighbors Nepal (GNN). Support has included emergency food, shelter, hygiene and dignity kits, bedding and kitchen sets, safe drinking water assistance and Child Friendly Spaces. As the response moves from immediate relief towards recovery, World Vision International Nepal will continue supporting affected children and families, with a focus on restoring livelihoods, helping children safely return to learning, rehabilitating shelters, improving access to essential services and strengthening protection systems for children and women.
