Synopsis (short abstract) This report focuses on the impacts of the 2025/26 floods in Nigeria. It consolidates qualitative and semi-quantitative evidence from key informant interviews, sectoral analyses, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) damage and loss estimation frameworks. The flooding event that affected the Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto and Taraba states among others peaked during October and November 2025. This flooding event resulted from heavy and sustained rainfall leading to overflow of rivers and streams; accumulation of water in low-lying and poorly drained areas; and rapid inundation of farmland with over 700 000 ha of cropland exposed during the peak period in mid-October. In response to the widespread flooding that affected several parts of Nigeria in 2025, FAO, in collaboration with the National Agricultural Extension, Research and Liaison Services, conducted data collection to discover flood impact on agriculture and rural livelihoods. The assessment was organized to complement satellite-based data identified through the Data in Emergencies Events Visualization in Emergencies application. The analysis aimed to generate timely, reliable, and actionable data to support evidence-based planning, emergency response and recovery interventions in flood-affected areas.
