Kundi calls for tapping KP’s economic potential

PESHAWAR: The Governor ofthe Khyber Pakhtnkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, while addressing the opening ceremony of the refurbished Mohsin Hall at the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Saturday, eulogized the role of the business community in bringing about economic growth and emphasized the need of public-private partnership to efficiently tap thepotentialof the KP. SCCI PresidentJunaidAltaf, formerFPCCI president Mohsin Aziz were also present on the occasion among other dignitaries. SCCI chiefJunaidAltaf highlighted the traders’ issues, especially the ongoing “FBR crackdown, harassment of jewelers”, ban on wheat transportation, closure of trade routes, and called for framing of sustainable policies in consultation with the business community. The chamber president also highlighted the suspension of the Export Development Fund (EDF) that had caused delay in completion of the Peshawar Expo Centre project and urged the governor to take up the funding issue with the Centre to complete this important project. He also called for equalization of the salary package of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police force with that of Punjab. JunaidAltaf praised thegovernor for implementation of the Open Door policy. He thanked the governor for highlighting KP’s constitutional rights, especially taking up suspension of wheat supply from Punjab and gas supply to the CNG sector. The governor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to provide a favorable environment to business and industry. He said that the issues raised by the SCCI leadership would be taken up with thecentre and provincial governments. The governor proposed formation of a committee of chamber senior members and government officials, saying that collective efforts had been essential to swiftly resolving all issues being faced by the business community. While discussing the foreign policy of the country, the governor highlighted Pakistan’s success in making US and Iran hold talks, in which some achievements were made.
