KARACHI: The metropolis sizzled in hot and humid weather on Sunday as the temperature hit 40. 3 Celsius, the highest recorded in the city this September, the Met Office said. Elsewhere in Sindh, the highest temperature of 42 Celsius was recorded in Shaheed Benazirabad, followed by 41. 5 Celsius each in Chhor and Mithi and 41 Celsius in Mirpurkhas. The maximum temperature in Sakrand was 40 Celsius, while Larkana, Moenjodaro, Khairpur, Dadu, Hyderabad Airport and Thatta recorded 39. 5 Celsius each. Jacobabad, Hyderabad city and Tandojam recorded 39 Celsius each. Mercury levels reached 38 Celsius in Padidan, 37. 5 Celsius in Sukkur, 35. 5 Celsius in Maripur and 35 Celsius in Badin. Rohri recorded 39 Celsius. The monsoon low over South Chhattisgarh has moved over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas and is likely to move west-northwestward. Under its influence, dust-thunderstorm rain, with a few moderate to isolated heavy falls, is likely in Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan Districts through September 15, with occasional gaps. Light to moderate dust-thunderstorm rain is also likely in Sanghar, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Matiari and Jamshoro Districts from September 14 to 15, with occasional gaps. Thunderstorm and light rain may occur in Karachi Division from September 14 to 15, with occasional gaps. The city is expected to remain hot and humid on Monday, with chances of thunderstorm and light rain. The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 37 and 39 Celsius, while humidity is expected at 75-85 percent. On Tuesday, the weather is likely to remain hot and humid, with chances of thunderstorm and light rain.
