Iranian attack damages US F-15s, A-10 at Jordan base

Multiple US military aircraft were damaged in Iranian strikes on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, according to US media reports citing sources familiar with the incident. About eight F-15 fighter jets sustained minor damage but were subsequently returned to service, while an A-10 Thunderbolt, commonly known as the Warthog, was struck and reportedly lost a wing, CBS News reported. No US troops were reported killed in the attacks. The strikes followed a US attack on five Iranian tankers on Tuesday, which Washington said was carried out in response to Iran targeting a US navy vessel. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later said it had struck eight tankers, two warships and the US military base in Jordan. US forces at the base fired more than 30 Patriot missiles to intercept the incoming attacks, CBS News reported. The strikes have also raised concerns among US officials over dwindling stocks of Patriot interceptors and other precision-guided weapons as the conflict with Iran continues to widen. The Muwaffaq Salti Air Base is a key US military facility in Jordan and has come under attack as the confrontation between Washington and Tehran spreads across the region.
