Country: Cambodia Source: International Organization for Migration Please refer to the attached file. Cambodia is among the countries most at risk to the impacts of climate change, which increasingly affect the Cambodian population, as well as key economic sectors. Migration has long been a central strategy for reducing household vulnerability to environmental risks and economic shocks, such as crop failure or the loss of productive assets, by providing income-generating alternatives. However, to date, a focused policy-level discussion on the interaction between climate change and migration has not been undertaken in Cambodia. This may be due to the limited availability of context-specific evidence on climate change–related impacts and migration dynamics within the country. The research study will answer the following questions: • To what degree is migration mainstreamed in current national and subnational policy frameworks and strategies related to climate change? • What barriers and entry points exist for better mainstreaming migration in this context? • How, and to what extent, can migration be leveraged as a positive adaptation strategy, and what are the risks from doing so? • What is the role, or potential role, of remittances in supporting climate change adaptation? • What are the gender-specific implications of environment-related migration?
