Imran Khan again undergoes eye examination at PIMS: Barrister Gohar

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has once again underwent an eye examination at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated on Tuesday. In a post on his social media account, Gohar demanded from the authorities to shift the incarcerated PTI founding chairman and his wife Bushra Bibi to hospital under the supervision of personal doctors. “It was just confirmed to me that Khan Sab was taken to PIMS last night for eye injection and medical check up. “I would add that whatever the treatment our concern remains unanswered – Khan sab and Bushra BB be shifted to hospital for treatment under the supervision of personal doctors accompanied by family members, ” he stated, adding that this is their fundamental right and his party has long been demanding its implementation. In January, Imran was diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye, resulting in a dangerous blockage affecting vision. The PTI had said medical experts who examined the former prime minister in jail had described the condition as highly sensitive and serious, warning that any delay in proper treatment could cause irreversible damage to his eyesight. Terming the situation alarming, the PTI had said the denial of appropriate medical care posed a grave risk to Imran’s vision and overall health, and warned that authorities would be held responsible in case of permanent damage. Talking to reporters near Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar on April 21 said the party continued its efforts to get its founder Imran and his spouse Bushra released, stressing that their detention remained a key concern for the party leadership. He had said that PTI leadership was making continuous efforts for the release of both Imran and Bushra. He had called for the immediate release of Bushra on medical grounds and her transfer to a hospital. Leaders and supporters of embattled PTI have been facing different charges in numerous cases related to the May 9 violent protests and clashes that broke out across Pakistan in 2023. The protests were held in remote and major cities as the party workers were agitated due to their then party chief’s arrest, with Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad summoning the armed forces to ensure law and order. Imran, who has been in prison since 2023 facing charges of corruption, land fraud and disclosure of official secrets, is being tried separately on similar charges related to the riots. The former PM’s family members have also faced legal battles for their alleged involvement in the May 9 incidents.
