IK’s sisters arrested ahead of protest

LAHORE: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sisters, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, were arrested on Monday, ahead of the party’s September 27 protest call. The development follows the detention of Imran’s other sister, Aleema Khan, after Lahore Deputy Commissioner ordered her detention for 30 days on Sunday. PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram confirmed the development, saying Punjab Police have arrested both sisters of Khan, along with their children and the sons of Aleema Khan Sahiba. “They have been placed in an armoured vehicle and are being taken to an unknown location, ” he said, adding that this action is illegal and is strongly condemned. PTI General Secretary in a social media post said that the wrongful arrests of Aleema Bibi, Nooreen Bibi and Azmi Bibi, along with the attacks and arrests of workers, ministers, and parliamentarians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad, have heightened their collective responsibility. “Moving forward, we must proceed with foresight and consensus. In light of the fascist onslaught on the entirety of Punjab and particularly Lahore, a committee has been formed to manage party affairs in Lahore district through consultation and agreement. Contact has also been maintained with the organisations of all four regions across Punjab yesterday. Today and tomorrow, consultations will be held with the Members of Parliament from Punjab. ” The party’s central media department said that they strongly condemn the illegal and high handed action of Punjab Police in arresting the sisters, their children, and the sons of Aleema Khan Sahiba. According to information received, they were placed in an armoured vehicle and were taken to an unknown location. “This is a blatant abuse of authority, a violation of fundamental rights, and an act of political victimisation. Targeting women and children of a political family in this manner exposes the true face of the Punjab government and Punjab Police. Such conduct is illegal, unconstitutional, and is condemned in the strongest possible terms, ” it added.
