Huge consignment of illegal arms, ammunition seized

KARACHI: Pakistan Customs Enforcement personnel have seized a large consignment of illegal arms and ammunition in an operation at the Joint Check Post (JCP) Yarik. Officials estimate the total value of the seized cache at Rs 32 million. According to the details issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Customs staff acted on credible intelligence and intercepted the vehicle near Sidra Sharif. The driver abandoned the vehicle on the spot and fled before he could be apprehended. The seized arms included four M4 rifles of 5. 56mm calibre made in the USA, two G-III rifles with one magazine, 42 Maghull PMAG D-60 magazines, 20 empty M4 magazines and 40 empty AK-47 magazines. Also recovered were 18 Tissa Zigara pistols made in Turkey, each with two magazines, 30 Beretta pistols of which 25 were made in the USA and five in Italy, two unmarked shot pistols, and 120 Chinese-made 30-bore pistols. The ammunition recovered comprised 900 AK-47 rounds, 2, 700 additional AK-47 rounds, 3, 500 rounds of 30-bore pistol ammunition and 1, 600 rounds of 12-bore Pak Shaheen cartridges.
