Governor urges photojournalists to promote positive journalism

KARACHI: ‎Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi on Thursday urged photojournalists to use their professional skills to project a positive image of the country and promote constructive thinking in society. ‎He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of photojournalists led by senior photographer and former President of the Pakistan Association of Press Photographers (PAPP) Athar Khan here at the Governor House. ‎The delegation included former PAPP presidents Syed Abbas Mehdi and Syed Hamid Hussain, as well as governing body member Syed Imran Ali. ‎Hashmi described photojournalists as an important means of communication and information dissemination. A photograph could often convey a message more effectively than many words. ‎He said photography was not merely a professional skill but an art, and stressed the need to introduce younger generations to the field. ‎The Governor said the rapid expansion of social media had increased both the importance and responsibilities of photojournalists. ‎He called for journalism that was positive, dignified and responsible, rather than content focused on criticism, ridicule or short-term entertainment. ‎During the meeting, Mehdi, on behalf of the delegation, congratulated Hashmi on assuming office as governor and presented him with a bouquet. ‎The delegation thanked the governor for acknowledging the role of photojournalists and said they would continue to discharge their professional responsibilities in a positive and responsible manner. ‎Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
