KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi has called for greater individual and collective responsibility to promote cleanliness and environmental protection as a clean and healthy environment is a fundamental right of every citizen. In his message on World Cleanup Day, the Governor said the international observance served as a reminder that maintaining clean surroundings required the active participation of governments, communities and individuals. “World Cleanup Day conveys a message of collective responsibility for cleanliness, ” Hashmi said, stressing the need to make cleanliness an integral and permanent part of everyday life. He said a clean and healthy environment was essential for the well-being and quality of life of citizens, adding that efforts to improve cleanliness should go beyond one-day campaigns and become a sustained social practice. The Governor also emphasised the need for responsible use and disposal of plastic and other waste, saying greater public awareness and responsible waste management could help reduce environmental pollution. He called for increased efforts to educate and engage young people on the importance of cleanliness, environmental protection, and responsible waste disposal, saying the younger generation had an important role in building a cleaner, healthier future. Hashmi said the government and citizens needed to work together to achieve a clean Sindh and a healthy Pakistan. He stressed that effective environmental protection required both institutional measures and responsible behaviour at the individual and community levels. “Let us pledge to keep our cities, province and country clean, ” he said. The Governor said World Cleanup Day provided an opportunity to renew commitment to protecting the environment and reminded everyone of their individual and collective responsibility to maintain clean, healthy surroundings.
