Explosions reported in Iran’s coastal areas amid Hormuz crisis

Several explosions were reported early Thursday in coastal areas of southern Iran, including Sirik, Minab and Qeshm Island, Iranian media reported, as tensions between Tehran and Washington continued to escalate around the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s official IRNA news agency said several areas in Sirik had been struck by what it described as “hostile projectiles”, without providing further details. Fars News Agency, meanwhile, reported explosions in Sirik, Minab and Qeshm Island, citing local officials as saying the sounds appeared to have come from the direction of the sea. The reports followed an explosion heard from the sea on Wednesday in the southern Iranian city of Jask, according to Fars. The latest incidents came amid a sharp escalation in the Iran-US confrontation centred on the Strait of Hormuz, with maritime attacks and military exchanges intensifying in recent days. Iran said on Wednesday it had attacked 10 vessels near the strategic waterway after the United States struck five Iranian oil tankers.
