Country: Ecuador Source: European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Heavy rainfall has been affecting most of Ecuador since early January, causing severe floods and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and widespread damage. The provinces most impacted in terms of affected people remain Guayas, Los Ríos, El Oro, Esmeraldas, Manabí, Loja, Santa Elena and Chimborazo. According to the Ecuadorian Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR), the death toll has risen to 15 fatalities, and a total of 110 875 people have been affected. 245 houses were destroyed, 28 633 houses damaged, and 33 bridges destroyed. Over the next 48 hours, further moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by local thunderstorms, is still forecast across most of the country.
