HIGHLIGHTS Suspension of movements along road corridors around Kabo Markounda: The host community receives one month of food assistance GENERAL CONTEXT Vakaga Prefecture – North-East On 22 July, a team from an NGO was robbed by armed men approximately 35 km from Birao, along the road to Tiringoulou. After departing Birao in the morning, the team was intercepted, taken into the bush and subjected to physical violence. The vehicle was subsequently searched and personal belongings were stolen. The assailants left the area before the team was able to resume its journey to the village of Delembé, located about 50 km from Birao. The NGO implements a food security program in the area aimed at strengthening community resilience. Birao remains the second most affected location by incidents impacting humanitarian actors, after Zemio. Ouham-Fafa Prefecture – Center Local authorities have suspended, until further notice, movements along the main road corridors around Kabo, including for humanitarian actors, to mitigate risks to civilians during ongoing security operations. On 27 July, reports of a possible attack on Kabo, as well as the alleged presence of armed elements in surrounding localities, triggered precautionary population movements, including arrivals from neighbouring villages. In response, the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) conducted security operations and increased patrols in and around Kabo. Movement restrictions are limiting humanitarian access to communities outside Kabo, preventing or delaying field missions, assessments, the delivery of humanitarian assistance and the provision of essential services until road access is restored. HUMANITARIAN NEEDS AND RESPONSE Multi-sector Mbomou Prefecture – South-East A humanitarian coordination mission was conducted from 20 to 23 July in the localities of Dembia and Rafaï. Discussions with affected communities indicated that approximately 450 displaced households from Guinikoumba (located about 15 km from Dembia, across the Ouara River in Haut-Mbomou Prefecture) intend to remain in Dembia, while continuing to monitor the security situation in their areas of origin for a possible return. Humanitarian needs remain significant across multiple sectors, including emergency shelter, essential household items, food assistance, health services, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). ACTED conducted a follow-up multisectoral assessment on 21 July to assess potential assistance. On 22 July, World Vision started collecting supplementary household data to facilitate the provision of essential household items and shelter assistance. In addition, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) plans to provide shelter assistance to address any remaining unmet needs. Nutrition Ouham Prefecture – North-West On 24 July, the WFP distributed 1. 164 tons of ready-to-use supplementary food to eight health facilities in Bossangoa. This assistance will support the nutritional treatment of more than 1, 600 children aged 6 to 59 months suffering from moderate acute malnutrition (MAM). The intervention aims to improve the nutritional status of affected children, reduce the risk of malnutrition-related complications, and strengthen access to nutrition services in supported health facilities.
