Country: Bulgaria Source: European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations A violent thunderstorm affected the western Balkan Mountains, in north-western Bulgaria bordering Serbia, on 19 April, resulting in a severe weather-related incident that caused casualties. According to media, as of 21 April, one person died and one has been seriously injured on Mount Kom in western Bulgaria, both struck by lightning during the thunderstorm. A rescue team was dispatched to the area. As of 21st of April according to the NIMH-weather-forecast (National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology): significant rainfalls are expected with amounts of 20-30 litres/m2 (rainfall spread for 24-hour period). The weather prognosis for 22nd of April shows not intensive rainfall over the whole country.
