At least 30 criminal cases reported in Islamabad within week

ISLAMABAD: Two people were killed and dozens of incidents of carjacking, robbery, and street crimes were reported to various police stations in heavily-guarded Islamabad during the past week. According to data compiled by Business Recorder, at least 30 criminal cases—including murder, vehicle theft, robberies, and street crime—were registered in various police jurisdictions. Of these, 21 cases were related to vehicle theft, including 18 motorcycles and three cars. Police also registered five armed robberies and two street crime incidents, during which victims were held at gunpoint and deprived of cash, mobile phones, jewellery, and other valuables. Several areas emerged as crime hotspots, particularly those falling under the Aabpara, Tarnol, Kirpa, Humak, and Lohi Bheer police stations, where criminal groups have reportedly become increasingly active. In a major incident, two people were killed and four others injured during a violent clash between two groups within the limits of Kirpa Police Station. According to initial reports, the dispute erupted between groups led by close relatives, Chaudhry Zubair and Chaudhry Hanif, and escalated into an exchange of gunfire. As a result, two brothers, Chaudhry Zubair and Chaudhry Tanveer, also known as “Tero, ” lost their lives, while four members of the Zubair group sustained injuries. During the last week three cases of carjacking were reported to Aabpara police, one case of robbery and two cases of auto theft reported to the Humak police station another two cases of auto theft registered at the Tarnol police station. Furthermore, one case each of robbery, street crime and auto theft reported to Korol police station and another case each of robbery and auto theft registered at the Lohi Bheer police station.
