Punjab will also bear interest and insurance costs: Over 125,000 e-bikes to be provided to students

LAHORE: More than 125, 000 e-bikes will be provided to talented male and female students under the “CM Maryam Nawaz E-Bike Scheme. ” The Punjab government will also bear the interest and insurance costs on the e-bikes. A special meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reviewed the E-Bike Scheme. The Chief Minister rejected proposals seeking a down payment from students as well as charges other than the monthly instalment. The meeting agreed in principle to a proposal for fixing the monthly instalment for students at around Rs3, 000. The CM Nawaz Sharif also accorded in-principle approval to gradually expand the scope of the “CM E-Bike Scheme” to government employees, departments and public delivery riders. The Chief Minister ordered that the e-bike portal be opened this week. She also directed that arrangements be made to provide e-bikes to eligible students within six weeks. The meeting was briefed that helmets and safety rods would also be provided free of cost along with the e-bikes under the scheme. The e-bikes would be equipped with Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries. On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aspiring students would also be provided free two-day training in e-bike driving. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
