The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast another spell of rain in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the Potohar region from September 4, warning of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions. According to the PMD, monsoon currents are entering the upper parts of the country, while a westerly wave is also influencing the weather system. Rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of the Potohar region on September 4 and 5. Some areas may receive heavy rainfall. The weather system is expected to affect several other parts of Punjab from September 3 to 5. These include Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Hafizabad and Kasur. Intermittent rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is also expected in Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal and Dera Ghazi Khan on September 4 and 5. Rain expected across KP, Kashmir and GB In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is expected from the evening or night of September 3 until September 5 in Peshawar, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Waziristan. The PMD has forecast intermittent rain in parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from September 3 to 6. The affected areas include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur. In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain is expected in Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar from September 3 to 6. Most parts of Sindh and Balochistan are likely to remain hot and humid. However, rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel and adjoining areas of Balochistan. Urban flooding, flash floods feared The PMD warned that heavy rain on September 4 and 5 could cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Lahore. Heavy rainfall could also trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The department also warned of landslides in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir. The PMD advised tourists and travellers to remain cautious during the period of adverse weather. Farmers were also advised to plan agricultural activities according to the expected weather conditions. Relevant authorities have been directed to remain alert and take necessary measures to deal with any emergency situation.
