KARACHI: A dangerous prisoner involved in multiple serious criminal cases, including the murder of senior journalist Wali Babar, has escaped from District Jail Malir in Karachi. According to jail sources, the escape came to light when a routine counting of prisoners was carried out after an internal event at the prison. Officials discovered that one inmate was missing. Sources said the escaped prisoner, identified as Syed Tahir Naveed alias “Polka”, had been linked to the high-profile murder case of journalist Wali Babar. The inmate was arrested a few days earlier by Joharabad police. Authorities also claim that following his arrest, a kidnapped trader’s body was recovered on his identification. The suspect was also accused of abducting and killing a trader named Rehan. Jail sources said that more than 18 hours had passed since the escape, but the fugitive had not yet been recaptured. Officials added that security arrangements at Malir Jail had previously been strengthened following earlier escape incidents, including installation of CCTV cameras and other monitoring systems.
