Hot conditions and flood risk exist in parts of Africa, Central Asia, Central America, and Northern South America. Africa Weather Hazards Flooding continues in parts of East Africa, and heavy rains in South Africa are also leading to flood concerns there. 1. Inundation continues in the Sudd wetlands of South Sudan. 2. Below-average rainfall since the start of the rainy season has caused abnormal dryness and drought across central and western parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Angola. This drought has caused crop damage, livestock deaths, and reduced water availability in the western and central provinces of Angola. 3. Continuous below-average rainfall since late December of last year has resulted in abnormal dryness across Madagascar, and severe drought in the country’s southern region. 4. Above-average rainfall in recent weeks has caused soil oversaturation, resulting in flooding and landslides in Congo, Gabon, parts of Zambia, and southwestern Ethiopia. 5. Forecasted moderate to heavy, and above-average rainfall for next week is likely to cause flooding in southern South Africa, northern Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, southwestern Kenya, and central Somalia. 6. Over the past 30 days, rainfall deficits have caused abnormal dryness in the central parts of Somalia, as well as southern and eastern Ethiopia. 7. The forecast of much above-average temperatures could lead to abnormally hot conditions in northern Mali, northern Niger, Algeria, western Libya, central Cameroon, CAR, and southwestern Madagascar over the next week.
