This nationwide assessment builds upon and supports the Government of Bangladesh’s National Strategy on Internal Displacement Management. By providing a nationwide estimates, this assessment aims to help the government and partners make better decisions on disaster preparedness, social protection, relocation planning, and long-term development. The assessment was carried out across all eight divisions, 64 districts and 12 city corporations of Bangladesh, covering 4, 579 unions, 329 municipalities and 480 city corporation wards including 400 slums and 736 informal settlements in city corporations. Data collection took place between September and October 2025, during which 6, 524 collective interviews were conducted with 29, 117 key informants, making this the first and the most comprehensive national assessment of disaster-induced internal displacement in Bangladesh. The total estimated number of IDPs due to disasters stands at 4, 955, 527 individuals. Nearly two thirds (63%) were displaced before April 2020, while 12 per cent were displaced after April 2024. One in four (25%) IDPs are just in 4 districts: Chattogram, Sirajganj, Bhola and Naokhali. In addition, 85 per cent of all IDPs reside in Unions. At division level, Chattogram hosts the largest share of estimated IDPs (24%), followed by Dhaka (16%) and Rajshahi (13%). Barishal accounts for (12%) and Rangpur (11%), while Sylhet and Khulna hold smaller shares. Together, Chattogram and Dhaka make up about 40 per cent of all estimated displaced populations.
