Weekly SPI-based inflation surges 0.23pc

ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based inflation for the week ended September 10, 2026 increased by 0. 23 percent, mainly due to an increase in the prices of petrol (6. 18percent), diesel (5. 49 percent), LPG (4. 32 percent) and wheat flour (0. 47 percent), Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data noted. The year on year trend depicts increase of 8. 62 percent due to increase in the prices of onions (125. 52 percent), LPG (55. 42 percent), diesel (45. 26 percent), petrol (39. 10 percent), wheat flour (30. 18percent), electricity for q1 (25. 24percent), chili powder (16. 37percent), mutton (15. 92percent), beef (13. 28percent), bananas (10. 51percent), milk fresh (8. 12percent) and bread plain (8. 09percent), while decrease is observed in the prices of potatoes (35. 21percent), chicken (24. 30percent), sugar (20. 88percent), eggs (19. 95percent), tomatoes (17. 65percent), salt powder (13. 96percent), pulse gram (13. 52percent) and pulse masoor (12. 26percent). The SPI for the week under review was recorded at 364. 26 points against 363. 42 points registered in the previous week, according to the PBS data released on Friday. The SPI for the consumption group up to Rs17, 732, Rs17, 732-Rs22, 888 and Rs22, 889-Rs29, 517 decreased by 0. 30 percent, 0. 18 percent and 0. 06 percent respectively, while for Rs29, 518-Rs44, 175 and for above Rs44, 175 consumption group increased by 0. 07 percent and 0. 47 percent respectively. The items, which recorded an increase in their average prices during the week over the previous include petrol super (6. 18percent) hi-speed diesel (5. 49percent), LPG (4. 32percent), pulse mash (0. 79percent), sufi washing soap 250gm cake each (0. 49percent), wheat flour bag 20kg (0. 47percent), pulse masoor (0. 46 percent), mustard oil (0. 36 percent), cooking oil dalda or other similar brand 5 litre tin each (0. 23percent), rice irri-6/9 (0. 18percent), vegetable ghee dalda/habib 2. 5kg tin each (0. 11percent), curd (0. 03percent), pulse gram (0. 02percent) and milk fresh (0. 01percent). The items that recorded a decrease in their average prices during the week over the previous week include bananas (7. 73percent), tomatoes (5. 24percent), chicken (4. 22percent), onions (3. 72percent), potatoes (1. 88percent), eggs (0. 68percent), garlic (0. 44percent), sugar (0. 42percent), pulse moong (0. 38percent) and broken basmati rice (0. 26percent).
