UNRWA Situation Report #7 on the Lebanon Emergency Response 2026 (16 April 2026) [EN/AR]

Key Points UNRWA launched its emergency response in Lebanon on 4 March 2026. As of 14 April, it operates two emergency shelters[ 1 ]: Siblin Training Centre (STC) in Saida Area and Battir School in Nahr el-Bared Camp in northern Lebanon. By 14 April, a total of 1, 741 displaced people (519 families) had been registered in the two UNRWA emergency shelters. On 13 March, UNRWA launched an appeal for US $12. 3 million to support up to 10, 000 people in the Agency’s two emergency shelters and 63, 000 vulnerable Palestine Refugees outside of its shelters. On 8 April, a two-week ceasefire between the United States, Israel and Iran was announced. Israeli authorities subsequently communicated that Lebanon was excluded from the ceasefire arrangements. The security situation further deteriorated, marked by over 100 Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon on the same day. On 9 April, most UNRWA services outside of its shelters, including administrative offices, schools, clinics and sanitation, were suspended for one day due to intensified airstrikes across Lebanon. However, services in North Lebanon Area as well as those for displaced persons in the shelters continued. Between 8 and 14 April, no security incidents affecting on-duty UNRWA personnel or facilities were reported. Overall Situation By 13 April, the Ministry of Social Affairs had documented the displacement of over 1. 1 million individuals [2], including 140, 914 in 684 shelters [3]. More than 200, 000 people have crossed into Syria since 2 March, including over 1, 200 Palestine Refugees from Syria who had fled to Lebanon in the past [4]. On 9 April, Lebanon observed a National Day of Mourning, signalling the severity of the impact of the airstrikes carried out the previous day.
