Unregistered medicines case: Drug Court rejects interim bail of four

KARACHI: The Sindh Drug Court has dismissed the applications seeking confirmation of interim bail filed by four accused in a case involving the alleged possession and sale of unregistered and substandard medicines. The court rejected the bail pleas of Ijaz, Rafiq, Younis and Muaz, observing that the use and sale of unregistered and substandard medicines could pose a serious threat to human lives. Former Justice Abdul Malik Gadhi remarked that those involved in the sale of unregistered and substandard medicines should be dealt with strictly. According to the prosecution, the four accused were arrested in January 2025, and unregistered medicines were allegedly recovered from their possession. A case was subsequently registered against them at Steel Town Police Station. The prosecution maintained that the accused were involved in the sale of unregistered medicines and that the recovered medicines were not registered with the relevant authorities. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court declined to confirm the interim bail granted to the accused and dismissed their applications. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
