UNICEF Lebanon Humanitarian Flash Update No. 7 (Escalation of hostilities), 16 April 2026

Countries: Lebanon, occupied Palestinian territory, Syrian Arab Republic Source: UN Children’s Fund Please refer to the attached file. 16 April 2026 Highlights At least 2, 196 people have been killed, including 172 children, and 7, 185 wounded, including 661 children, following weeks of deadly airstrikes and military operations in Lebanon. UNICEF provided fuel, repair, and maintenance interventions that directly supported the continuity of public water supply and wastewater services for more than 2. 8 million people, including an estimated 409, 000 displaced people hosted within communities relying on these systems. Approximately 11, 839 children and caregivers have been supported with community-based psychosocial support in shelters and community spaces, combining psychosocial support with recreational activities to strengthen well-being, resilience, and social cohesion. UNICEF requires US$ 48. 3 million to reach one million people in need, yet only US$ 15. 2 million is currently available, leaving a 69 per cent funding gap. Without additional funding, critical life-saving services for children and families, including access to safe water, health and nutrition services, and child protection support will be significantly disrupted.
