UNFPA Situation Report: Lebanon Crisis (2 – 16 April 2026)

Country: Lebanon Source: United Nations Population Fund Please refer to the attached file. The humanitarian situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate amid ongoing hostilities and widespread displacement. The destruction of critical infrastructure and key transport routes has further isolated vulnerable populations, including pregnant women, and has impeded humanitarian access. Since 2 March, 2, 124 people are reported to have been killed and 6, 921 injured. On 16 April 16, the UN Secretary General welcomed a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. This may lead to a potential de-escalation in hostilities, though uncertainty persists. Displaced populations are seeking to return to areas where their homes remain intact, but destruction in other areas prevents their safe return home. Since 2 March, UNFPA has reached nearly 60, 600 displaced people with sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services through support to 55 health facilities, nine mobile medical units, 21 mobile GBV teams, and nine women’s and girls’ safe spaces. UNFPA is seeking US $12 million to address the urgent needs of 225, 000 people throughout March to May 2026, complementing the 2026 Lebanon Response Plan under which UNFPA is seeking US $30 million. However, UNFPA will soon revise the appeal, in line with the UN Flash Appeal, as needs have far exceeded initial estimates. The Flash Appeal remains severely underfunded, with only US $2. 9 million mobilized to date. This shortfall is seriously undermining the ability of UNFPA to sustain the delivery of life-saving SRH and protection services beyond April, while the needs of women and girls continue to increase significantly.
