Insecurity stemming from the conflict in Sudan continues to impact the situation in Chad, particularly in Wadi Fira. On 18 March, a drone strike launched from Sudan struck Tiné, Chad, resulting in several fatalities. The border remains officially closed except for humanitarian passage under strict notification protocols. In the first quarter of 2026, 35, 495 new arrivals have been registered coming from Sudan. Of the 918, 761 total refugees from Sudan who have registered in Chad since April 2023, Ouaddaï and Wadi Fira regions are the primary hubs, and women and children represent 87% of registered arrivals. A reported resurgence of cases of measles and meningitis in Ouaddaï (426 measles and 191 meningitis cases, including 36 deaths), could impact access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services in the affected health districts. UNFPA in Chad launched an emergency appeal for US$18. 7 million as part of the urgent need to scale-up the delivery of SRH and gender-based violence (GBV) services given the increasing needs.
