In over a third of these attacks, ACLED records damage to residential infrastructure. The strikes actively targeted civilian enterprises’ warehouses, particularly those affecting food supply, as Kyiv announced preparations to stockpile food and water ahead of winter. While Russia agreed to a ceasefire on strikes in Kyiv between 5 and 7 September during the United States delegation’s visit, the deadly attacks resumed before the end of the day on 7 September and are likely to continue, as Russia ramps up production of ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones. Russia’s exaggerated claims of territorial gains along the front line become more brazen, as it increasingly uses artificial intelligence and small infiltration groups that raise the Russian flag behind Ukrainian lines to perpetuate these false claims. Analysts assess that these claims may disadvantage Russian forces who plan operations based on an inaccurate battlefield picture, but may also be weaponized by Russia to portray a more advantageous position during mediation talks with Ukraine. While Russia’s advances are slower than it hopes and reports, Russian troops gained ground last week in the areas of Huliaipole in the Zaporizhia region and Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region, as front line settlements continued to record high casualties and total destruction due to Russia’s relentless assaults. 31 Aug.
