Taylor Swift has paid tribute to Dolly Parton following the country music legend’s death at 80 after a brief battle with cancer. Swift has spoken about her admiration for Parton for years. In a 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she described Parton as a major influence on her career and praised her impact on artists across different genres. In a message shared with The Hollywood Reporter, Swift said a world without Parton “doesn’t feel possible, real, or right”, while highlighting the singer’s generosity and the lasting impact she had on others. Swift also remembered Parton for her music, songwriting and efforts to encourage children to develop a love of reading. She described the singer as someone who combined kindness with strength and remained committed to defending her worth as an artist. The two artists had also shared a warm relationship in recent months. Parton posted a video thanking Swift and her fiancé, Travis Kelce, after the couple donated $2 million to her Imagination Library literacy nonprofit around the time of their wedding. In the video, Parton thanked the couple for making giving back an important part of their lives and jokingly asked if she could have their first child. Parton’s family announced her death in a video posted to her social media accounts, with her nephew and longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver, reading a statement that Parton had asked him to deliver years earlier. According to entertainment insider Rob Shuter, Swift, Miley Cyrus and Beyoncé are among artists reportedly being considered for a large-scale musical tribute to Parton. However, the plans are still at an early stage and have not been officially confirmed.
