Security forces kill highly wanted terrorist in Karachi operation

Pakistan Rangers and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) killed a highly wanted terrorist during a joint intelligence-based operation in Karachi, Aaj News reported Sunday, citing officials. The operation was conducted in the Gulbai Sher Shah area following intelligence about the presence of terrorists, a Rangers spokesperson was quoted as saying. An exchange of fire took place between security forces and terrorists during the operation, in which a highly wanted terrorist was killed, the spokesperson said. The killed terrorist was identified as Qari Ziaur Rahman, also known as Qari Saifullah, a resident of Pakistan’s northwestern Bajaur district. Weapons and explosives were recovered from his possession, according to the Rangers. The spokesperson said that the terrorist was wanted for involvement in multiple attacks on camps of the Pakistan Army and the Frontier Corps. The killed terrorist had recently arrived in Karachi from Afghanistan and was attempting to organise a terrorist network in the city, according to the spokesperson. He was also planning terrorist attacks on sensitive locations, the spokesperson added. Security forces subsequently launched a search operation in the area, while the recovered weapons and explosives are being further examined.
