Sarwar Soomro’s poetry collection launched

KARACHI: “Sarwar Ko Yaad Rakhna” (Remembering Sarwar) was launched at Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, which was attended by government representatives, a large number of literary figures and journalists. Prominent amongst the attendees were Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Ali Shah as chief guest, alongside President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah, Director General Culture Sindh Habibullah Memon, Dr. Fatima Hassan. Speakers at the ceremony, including Hameed Soomro, Masroor Peerzado, Abdul Momin Memon, Sikandar Soomro, and Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman Sheikh, paid tribute to the literary contributions of the late poet Ghulam Sarwar Soomro and highlighted the significance of preserving Sindh’s rich literary heritage. Addressing the gathering, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah described the publication of Ghulam Sarwar Soomro’s poetry collection as a proud moment for his family and the literary community. He stressed the importance of introducing younger generations to Sindh’s literary traditions and celebrated poets, noting that the province has produced some of the finest writers, intellectuals, and poets in the region. He said literature and poetry play a vital role in promoting awareness, intellectual growth, and social harmony. “Sindh is a symbol of love, peace, and tolerance, and preserving our literary heritage is essential for future generations, ” he remarked, adding that Sindhi writers and poets have earned recognition beyond Pakistan through their creative work. Writer Masroor Peerzado recalled his long association with Ghulam Sarwar Soomro and described his poetry as a reflection of the cultural and social spirit of an era that predated social media. He noted that themes of love and the use of double rhyme were among the distinctive features of Soomro’s poetic style. Abdul Momin Memon termed the collection a valuable literary contribution, saying that the late poet beautifully captured emotions, observations, and human experiences through his verses. Hameed Soomro, son of the late poet, expressed pride in publishing his father’s work, saying the occasion had brought immense joy to him. He thanked Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, and all those who supported the publication and launch of the book.
