Punjab intensifies crackdown on environment law violations

LAHORE: The Punjab government has intensified province-wide enforcement against environmental law violations, with a zero-tolerance policy being implemented across multiple sectors. Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said indiscriminate action was being taken against sources of pollution, while monitoring, inspections and enforcement measures had been further strengthened to ensure a clean, green and pollution-free Punjab on the directives of the chief minister of Punjab. According to details, the Environmental Protection Agency inspected 166 brick kilns, of which one was demolished, and three were sealed for violations. Fines totaling Rs300, 000 were also imposed on kiln owners. In the industrial sector, 114 industrial units were inspected, and seven units were sealed for violating environmental regulations. Fines amounting to Rs400, 000 were imposed on violators. The provincial minister said action was also being taken to control plastic pollution and curb the use of illegal plastic. The EPA inspected 132 locations, confiscated 1, 515 kilograms of illegal plastic and sealed 20 locations. Fines totaling Rs180, 000 were imposed for violations of plastic regulations.
