On 10 August 2026 at 07: 34 local time, a magnitude 7. 4 (Mw) earthquake struck western Colombia, with its epicentre located approximately 20 km from San José del Palmar in the department of Chocó. According to the Servicio Geológico Colombiano, the earthquake occurred at an estimated depth of 96 km. Numerous aftershocks were recorded following the main shock, including an event of magnitude 4. 8. The risk assessment integrates pre‐earthquake epidemiological trends with disaster‐related vulnerabilities observed across affected Colombian territories. Elevated respiratory disease activity, rising pertussis notifications, and recurring weekly alerts for dengue and malaria shaped the prioritization of risks outlined in this report.
