PU reports revenue surges to Rs12.56bn

LAHORE: Punjab University has released a Green Paper detailing sharp financial gains over the past two years, reporting that total revenue climbed from Rs7. 15 billion to Rs12. 56 billion even as private degree programmes were discontinued and private candidates fell from 192, 000 to 35, 000, according to a university spokesperson. The release came as three of five groups in the Joint Action Committee split from the body and boycotted its press conference, with the remaining groups accused by the spokesperson of facing corruption inquiries and using pressure tactics to dodge accountability, ahead of a rival White Paper reportedly being prepared. The spokesperson credited Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali’s governance reforms for cutting the budget deficit from Rs2. 86 billion to Rs1. 67 billion, reducing reliance on reserves, and generating major savings through anti-theft measures, solar energy, transparent accounting, hostel de-occupation, and removal of decades-old land encroachments worth billions of rupees.
