Promise of Peace

Peace is fickle. It is especially fickle when Israel and Donald Trump are holding up one end of the agreement. Yet, for now, peace is peace, and that alone must be welcomed. The preliminary agreement between Washington and Tehran, after more than three months of war represents a pause in violence, a chance to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and a possible easing of the global economic pressures that have weighed heavily on countries far beyond the Middle East. There will be time later to assess the agreement’s durability, its geopolitical consequences, and whether its promises can survive the hard realities of implementation. For now, however, the world is right to recognise the value of diplomacy that did not give up. In a world increasingly defined by confrontation, Pakistan has demonstrated that patient diplomacy can still matter. It was the work of sustained engagement, quiet persuasion and an understanding that regional peace cannot be built through force alone. Trust is thin, interests are competing, and spoilers will not disappear overnight. But peace, however fragile, must be given a chance. For now, Pakistan can take justified pride in having helped create that chance.
