Pakistan Navy’s newly inducted submarine PNS/M HANGOR successfully conducted its maiden live weapon firing in the North Arabian Sea, demonstrating the vessel’s operational readiness and weapon-system capability, the Navy’s Directorate General Public Relations said on Sunday. During the firing exercise, PNS/M HANGOR launched an anti-ship cruise missile designed for precision engagement at extended ranges and successfully struck the designated target, according to the Navy. “The successful firing marked an important milestone in the operationalisation of PNS/M HANGOR and demonstrated the growing strength of Pakistan Navy’s subsurface warfare capabilities, ” the DGPR — Navy said. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf witnessed the firing at sea and described the successful test as an important milestone in the operationalisation of PNS/M HANGOR. The naval chief appreciated the submarine’s combat capabilities and emphasised the importance of continuously enhancing subsurface warfare capabilities to maintain operational readiness and Pakistan Navy’s deterrence capability at sea. The Navy said the successful firing reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a modern, combat-ready and technologically capable force for the defence of Pakistan’s maritime frontiers. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the Pakistan Navy and its leadership on the successful maiden live weapon firing by PNS/M HANGOR. He said the submarine’s successful engagement of a long-range target with an anti-ship cruise missile demonstrated the operational preparedness, professional expertise and combat capability of the Pakistan Navy’s submarine force. The prime minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the preparedness of the armed forces to meet any challenges to national security. He also commended Admiral Naveed Ashraf and all personnel involved in the induction and operationalisation of PNS/M HANGOR for their professional performance.
