Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday announced a fuel relief of 100 rupees per litre for motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles of up to 800cc, as global oil prices rise amid tensions in the Middle East. Under the scheme, owners of two- and three-wheelers, including motorcycles and rickshaws, will receive a relief of 100 rupees per litre on up to 20 litres of petrol a month. Owners of vehicles with engines of up to 800cc will receive the same relief on up to 30 litres a month. PM said the government was aware of the burden caused by rising fuel prices and would not leave people alone during the difficult period. The scheme will be implemented in Islamabad from the night between Monday and Tuesday and across the rest of Pakistan, including Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, from the night between Wednesday and Thursday, PM said. Registration for the scheme has opened, with details to be communicated to the public through an awareness campaign, he said. Shehbaz Sharif thanked provincial governments for cooperating in providing information on motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles to facilitate registration for the scheme.
