PM lauds FM, team as FX reserves hit all-time high of USD21.4bn

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday lauded Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and his economic team after the country’s foreign exchange reserves hit an all-time high of USD21. 4 billion. In a statement, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Aurangzeb, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmad, the government’s economic team, and, in particular, overseas Pakistanis for their contribution to this significant achievement. He said the record reserves held by the SBP were a testament to the tireless efforts of the economic team and reflected that the government’s policies were moving in the right direction. The Prime Minister also pointed to the country’s successful return to international capital markets, calling it a clear sign that global confidence in the economy was being restored. He said the rise in reserves would not only strengthen the country’s capacity to meet its external payment obligations but would also significantly enhance its resilience against global economic headwinds. A stable economic position, he added, would open new doors to foreign confidence, investment, and sustainable economic growth. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
